AAU is the first of the Danish research institutions to initiate a model to replace the discontinued BFI system. The BFI system had the advantage of being transparent and more or less out of the hands of managers regarding where the income went—it was almost bottom-up funding based on the individual researcher's publications. The new system is less transparent, does not relate tto individuals, and it is much more in the hands of managers where money goes. No doubt they will distribute funds fairly and equitably and with the good sense to protect and prioritize research freedom. See (Stoustrup et al. 2023). Stoustrup, J., Jensen, W., Kristensen, T. "A scientific study from Aarhus University shows that the Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator was perceived by many as a control and management tool that created stress and a poor working environment. The study showed that the more a department had adopted the Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator, the poorer the working environment and the more stressed the researchers."
